I believe that chiropractic is so important to the beautiful process
of pregnancy and childbirth - for the health of both the mother and
the baby.
For moms.....Pregnancy has a profound effect on the
body. Many pregnant women experience all sorts of aches and pains as
the structure of their body adapts to the growing baby inside. Stress
on the spine and pelvis can make everyday activities painful, especially
if your body was unbalanced even before the changes of pregnancy occurred.
Besides being uncomfortable for you, these stresses and imbalances can
affect your baby as well. The uterus is connected to the pelvis by ligaments.
When the pelvis is out of alignment, the uterus is affected by the connections
with these ligaments. The baby may have to move into a less-than-ideal
position in the uterus to respond to the changes resulting from an unbalanced
pelvis. This may lead to conditions such as torticollis, posterior presentation,
or breech presentation of the baby which increases the likelihood of
delivery interventions.
Gentle chiropractic adjustments help to balance the
spine and pelvis to give the baby an optimal growing environment and
to help make delivery easier. Chiropractic care can also help to restore
balance to a woman's body as the body adapts to changes after pregnancy
and childbirth.
For babies and children.....The amazing process of childbirth
can be hard on a baby. Whether the delivery is vaginal or by c-section,
the amount of stress put on the baby can affect their spine and nervous
system. This may manifest itself in many ways: colic, breathing problems,
breastfeeding difficulties, sleep disturbances, reflux, and irritability.
Very gentle chiropractic adjustments help to balance the baby's spine
and decrease the stress on the nervous system. As babies get older,
the milestones of sitting up, crawling, and walking, as well as the
typical bumps of falls of toddlers and older children may result in
imbalances of the spinal structure. Resolving these changes at a young
age allows the nervous system to function optimally and helps to prevent
more serious problems in the future.Other conditions
that benefit from a balanced spine and healthy nervous system include
ear infections, bedwetting in an older child, asthma, and allergies.
Chiropractic adjustments for pregnant women, babies,
and children are gentle, specific, and are modified to account for the
special needs of each population.
Treating women and babies is an honor - there is no more
special time in life than pregnancy and the birth of a new life. I consider
it a privilege to be part of this amazing journey and to provide the benefits
of chiropractic care. Please contact me if you have any questions.
