Julie Dennert

I am a full-time mother of my three children, ages 6, 9, and 12, with my wonderful husband of 15 years. I have a degree in education from Marquette University, where I worked with pregnant teens, and taught preschool and grade school for several years before starting my family. I also owned my own childcare business for three years before my second child was born.

I have been a birth and postpartum doula for friends and relatives in the past and completed DONA training in 2003. My experience giving birth to my own children was very rewarding, and I feel it is such a privilege to be with other women as they bring their babies into the world. Childbirth should be an empowering experience for all women, and I hope that my clients are able to look back on their birth experience with fondness.

I didn't know what to expect,
The contractions were different
Than I had imagined.
I cherished the moments,
The labor,
The feelings.
But I wanted someone to be with me,
To comfort me,
Tell me I was okay.
Calm, peaceful, pleasant and confident,
Julie came into my house and things changed.
I had not a fear, not one bit of pain.
The contractions got easier
In her presence.
Her touch was so perfect,
So light but
So strong.
She had the perfect words,
The perfect touch and a gentle peacefulness.
To imagine the labor, the birth
Without her
Leaves me feeling incomplete,
She brought so much
Strength and warmth
To a birth that was perfect.
I can not imagine going through
Such a miraculous event without her at my side.
