Birth Doula Gwen specializes in providing personalized support for her doula clients by dialoguing at length with them about their individual desires and preferences to obtain the most positive and empowering birth experience possible. “In-depth childbirth education classes and regular chiropractic adjustments are two highly recommended activities for all pregnant women,” Gwen emphasizes. Helping a laboring woman’s main support person feel comfortable and confident while attending birth is a very important component to Gwen’s prenatal visits. Gwen uses Spinning Babies and evidence-based birth techniques with the majority of births she attends. She also captures labor and birth memories with photography, enhances the atmosphere with aromatherapy, and is skilled at placenta encapsulation for those clients that desire those extras. Gwen became interested in pregnancy and birth during her high school years when her own registered nurse mother taught childbirth education in the basement of her home and went on to “doula” a few young, unwed friends. After completing her college undergrad, Gwen was privileged to attend medical school for 2 years, where she graduated with a B.S. degree in medical illustration (surgical illustration and photography). She married her high school sweetheart and has been blessed to birth and home educate 8 children. In between spending time with family and grandchildren, Gwen stays up-to-date with regular birth-related re-certifications and trainings as well as mentoring new doulas. She looks forward to providing live, virtual childbirth education and supporting couples as their birth doula.
