Birth Doula

With the physical and emotional support of a trained labor support person, a loved one or partner, a vision, informational resources and sense of safety, most people can labor and birth in a way that is safe and sacred, fulfilling and, despite the hard work of labor, fun! Since 2010, its been my honor to serve hundreds of birthing individuals and their families across a variety of communities, representing a range of birth experiences, as a certified birth doula. My goal is always to meet clients where they are and to support a process whereby you have the best opportunity to achieve the sort of birth you envision for yourself, your baby and family. In addition to doula-ing at all Milwaukee and SE-WI hospitals, birth center and home birth settings, I offer postpartum doula, childbirth education and placenta encapsulation services. Clients can choose either in person or COVID-safe virtual support. Beginning in 2021, for those wanting to labor at home with additional clincal support (i.e. listening to your baby’s heart tones, monitoring vitals, etc.) I’m happy to offer monitrice services as a bridge-to-care until clients are ready to head to the hospital or settle in at their chosen birth location.

For more than a decade, Rachel has served as a certified perinatal educator, DONA-trained and Well Rounded Maternity-certified birth doula, postpartum doula and placenta preparation specialist. Most recently she completed a dual associates degree in Midwifery through the Midwest Maternal Child Institute and National College of Midwifery. She is recognized as a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) through the North American Registry of Midwives, and is proud to be a licensed midwife (LM) in Wisconsin. Rachel has worked closely with birthing families and providers in metro Milwaukee and Chicago, as well as within one of Wisconsin’s largest Amish communities where normal, intervention-free, out-of-hospital birth is the norm. Although her special interest is the normalization of birth and natural labor supports, as a birth doula she is also adept at supporting families navigating higher risk pregnancy and birth, as well as individuals who require, or chose, medical interventions. Whether attending births at home, hospital or a birth center, Rachel’s goal is to assist families in having their “best birth possible”, however defined by the birthing person. Her work is dedicated to the life of her brother Bryon, and between births much of Rachel’s time is spent with her two children, Josha and Subhie.
